Doctor Who News

As Series 7 has now begun filming (20/02/12), it is highly likely that there will be a lot of new information, spoilers and speculation flying around the internet. This page is where I will post everything that you need to know, so that you can all keep up to date with the new series.

At the moment the series is expected to air in the Autumn and will consist of the usual 13 episodes and a christmas special. The first 5 episodes will air in 2012 with companions Amy & Rory leaving at the end of the 5th ep. Jenna Louise Coleman will then join as the new companion in the 6th episode which will air at Christmas 2012.

COMPANIONS: Steven Moffat has confirmed that Karen and Arthur (Amy and Rory) will continue as the companions until episode 5 when they will depart from the show after a last encounter with the weaping angels. Steven stated that 'Amy and Rory will leave in the fifth episode that goes out. It will be a final encounter with the angels and not everybody gets out alive – and I mean it this time.'
Jenna Louise Coleman has since been confirmed as the new companion, who will join the series in the sixth episode of the series (the Christmas special). Jenna is best known for her roles in Emmerdale, Waterloo Road and ITV1 drama Titanic.
Alex Kingston is confirmed for the fifth episode of the series and possibly more later on.

CAST: So far we know that Matt Smith will play the Doctor for the whole series. We know that Amy & Rory are due to leave at some point during the series and a new companion will join the series, although it has not yet been announced who the new companion will be. We also know that Alex Kingston will reprise her role as River Song, although it is also unknown how many episodes of the series she will appear in. She has been confirmed for episode 5 but could also be in more later on. There are also rumours that various popular characters such as Jack Harkness, The Master, Craig Owens, Madam Vastra and Canton could return during the series.
On the 21/02/12 it was confirmed that Rupert Graves (Sherlock) and David Bradley (Harry Potter) will both be staring in the new series. Both were spotted on set on the 21st so it is likely that they will appear in one of the first episodes of the series. Upstairs Downstairs star Adrian Scarborough has been confirmed to appear in one episode as a character named Brian Williams (perhaps a relative of Rory?). Ben Browder has also been confirmed for one episode.

MONSTERS: Producer Marcus Wilson stated that a few classic monsters from the 60's and 70's will return but that they will have 'moved on' a bit. One of the monsters rumoured to return is the Yeti, which first appeared in an episode with the second Doctor in 1967; The Abominable Snowman. They also appeared in another episode a year later called The Web of Fear. It has also been confirmed that the Daleks will make a return this series.

WRITERS: So far, Steven Moffat has been confirmed as writing five episodes for the series. Mark Gattis and John Fay have both been confirmed for one episode each. It was recently confirmed that Toby Whitehouse and Chirs Chibnall will both return to Doctor Who to write new episodes.

DIRECTORS/PRODUCERS: It has been confirmed that Saul Metzstein (director of Upstairs Downstairs) will be directing the first few episodes.

EPISODES: Moffat has claimed that the first episode will be a bit like the movie Die Hard and teased that the title was 'Spoiler of the Spoilers'. It is yet unknown as to which episode Mark Gattis will be writing but he confirmed that he originally pitched the story idea for the episode to Moffat in late 2011. He also revealed that his episode contains the words 'Meat', 'Klaxon' and 'Vienna'. Steven Moffat also stated that will not be any two-part episodes in this series. Steven has confirmed that there will be six episodes shown this year, the sixth being the Christmas special which will see the introduction of Jenna Louise Coleman as the new companion.

Episode One will have its premiere in August at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival according to The Guardian. Taking place between August 23-5, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and Sue Vertue will also give a masterclass on Sherlock.

EPISODE TITLES: Episode 1 confirmed as 'All of The Daleks'.

FILMING SO FAR: Today filming has taken place inside a house on Church Road in Penarth (Amy & Rory's street). Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan were both spotted on location. Actor and Comedian Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley in Harry Potter) was also spotted on the set and there have been various (unconfirmed) rumours that he could be playing the part of Rory's dad. Matt, Karen and Arthur are currently filming an episode in Spain, although there is speculation that Alex Kingston is also filming there as a picture has been released showing a person looking extrememly like her. Who else has such fabulous hair? (See 'latest news' below for picture).

LOCATIONS: According to the acting agency Shepperd-Fox the new Doctor Who series is set to film in Spain. They claimed that their client Rob Cavazos will 'shortly fly to Spain to film Walter in the next series of Doctor Who'.
